External Uni-band Seal Specification

Each bid for a manhole/catch basin shall include the cost to furnish and install an external rubber sealing sleeve as manufactured by Sealing Systems, Inc. or approved equal. A separate bid item to furnish and install a rubber sealing wrap manufactured by Sealing Systems, Inc. or approved equal may be desired on all storm sewer and sanitary sewer manholes at any connecting joint or at any pipe connection. The bid can be bid by the lineal foot or per joint.

The seal shall be single continuous rubber band made of EPDM rubber with a minimum thickness of 65 mils. Each band shall have a 2" x 1/4" mastic strip on the top and bottom edge. The mastic shall be non-hardening butyl rubber sealant and shall seal to the cone/top slab of the manhole/catch basin and over the lip of the casing. One band will seal a casting and up to six, two-inch adjusting rings.

Depending on the number of adjusting rings needed, the band will either be twelve or sixteen inches in height. A twelve-inch band will cover up to four, two inch adjustment rings. A sixteen-inch band will cover up to six, two inch adjustment rings. If there are more adjusting rings per installation there will be a requirement (bid item) for an additional twelve or sixteen inch band. Each additional band will overlap the upper band by two inches.

The external seal shall be installed after the adjusting rings are set. Detailed instructions for installation shall be according to the manufacturers recommendations.

8" or 12" Seal Wrap Each pipe joint or manhole joint shall be sealed with an external rubber sleeve similar to the Infi-Shield® Seal Wrap as manufactured by Sealing System, Inc. (763-478-2057). The seal shall be made of EPDM (Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer) rubber with a minimum thickness of 65 mils. Each unit shall have a 2" wide mastic strip on the top and bottom edge of the rubber wrap. The mastic shall be non-hardening butyl rubber sealant, with a minimum thickness of 1/4". The seal shall be designed to prevent leakage of water into the manhole or pipe joint.

6" Seal Wrap Each manhole, catch basin or pipe joint shall be sealed with an external rubber sleeve similar to the Infi-Shield Seal Wrap as manufactured by Sealing Systems, Inc. (763-478-2057). The seal shall be made of EPDM (Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer) rubber with a minimum thickness of 30 mils. The back side of each unit shall be coated with mastic.
